I am so happy to hear that the SmartMusic program has benefited so many of you. I have recently heard of a few minor items that I wanted to clarify with everyone to make certain that you achieve the “A” grade so many of you deserve.
SmartMusic Tip 1
Each week, 80 minutes of practice time must be completed to earn an A for the weekly practice record. In addition to the practice record, there may be assignments to complete within each of your music classes. These assignments (quizzes) are separate from the weekly practicing.
SmartMusic Tip 2
I always recommend that you check your practice time at the end of each week to make certain the software has captured your correct allotment of time. If you are a part of my text message Remind 101 program, I have set up the remind program to send a text message weekly.
Computer: Open up the practice record within the class and double check to make certain your time is correct
iPad: Using the internet, open gradebook.smartmusic.com, log-in and check your time to make sure it is accurate. Once you are done practicing on the iPad, scroll to the bottom of the page and make certain the spinning wheel has stopped. If you close out of the program before the wheel has stopped spinning, the software will not capture the time practiced.
SmartMusic Tip 3
Additional practice time can be added to the practice records each week for practice time at lessons, a friends house, etc…
Computer: Open up the practice record for the desired week, scroll down and add the additional time by entering the additional practice time, select add and then the save button. The added time will not be reflected until you log out of the program and log in again.
iPad: Using the internet, open gradebook.smartmusic.com, log-in and open up the practice record for the desired week, scroll down and add the additional time by entering the additional practice time, select add and then the save button.
SmartMusic Tip 4
There are many very useful tools within the SmartMusic software. Play around with the loop feature, the tempo feature (sliding the tempo to the left to slow down or to the right to increase the tempo), the metronome, the tuner feature to make certain your instrument is in tune when recording.
SmartMusic Tip 5
The SmartMusic software utilizes both Adobe Flash and Java. These two additional free software items must be up to date at all times for the SmartMusic software to work properly. Adobe is usually updated every few weeks and java weekly.
SmartMusic Tip 6
The SmartMusic website offers several how-to tutorial videos, which are a great way to find answers to your questions quickly. Click the appropriate tab in the upper right corner to see the different playlists. If you are looking for more in-depth training, watch one of their Training Videos. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Search through frequently asked questions in their Support Solutions.
